How long does it take to get PADI certified?
You can be PADI certified in as little as 3 days. PADI courses are performance based, which means that you earn your ceritification when you demonstrate that you have mastered the skills and knowledge required in the PADI Open Water Booklet. Most students finish the class in about 25 hours of time spread out over a few days or on weekends. The academic session takes about 8 hours and the pool about 4 hours. After you have completed the pool sessions, then comes the Open Water ocean dives. These 4 "Checkout" dives must be completed over 2 days with no more than 3 dives completed in one day.
What if I'm not a great swimmer?
Dont Worry, my friend. You are not required to be a master swimmer, although you do need to be a proficient swimmer who is comfortable and relaxed in the water. The swimming requirements for getting certified are 200 yard swim and a 10 minute float.
